AI in the Financial Sector - From Hype Graveyard to Regulated Practice

Cover of Zeitschrift für das gesamte Kreditwesen

In the Zeitschrift für das gesamte Kreditwesen (eng. Journal for the Entire Banking Industry), Prof. Dr. Heiko Beier sheds light on the question of why the use of artificial intelligence in the financial sector often stagnates after the proof of concept, despite high expectations. The article shows that it is not so much a lack of use cases as heterogeneous legacy systems and stricter regulatory requirements for data quality, documentation and model control that make productive use difficult. At the same time, the author argues that compliance and regulatory pressure should not be seen as an obstacle to innovation, but rather as a strategic opportunity. A consistent database, clear governance structures and transparent architectures create the conditions for the sustainable use of AI. Hybrid AI in particular enables financial institutions to transform AI from a short-lived hype into a regulated and economically viable practice.

Curious to find out how financial institutions are making the leap from proof of concept to productive AI?
